Why Minimally Invasive Spinal Treatment?

Wooridul Hospital implements Minimally Invasive Spinal Treatment based on the principle “normal disc to be preserved and bloodless”.

90% of spine disease can be cured without surgery

Physical therapy, deep muscle stimulation treatment, nerve root, spine core muscle strengthening exercise therapy, flexible spine therapy like a gyrotonic help you to be better and get your old life back. However, when the pain is still severe, the treatment to be preserved can’t help you to be better, toe and ankle are getting weaker, the power to urinate, defecate and move your legs is weaker, and get numbness, you have to go to hospital as soon as possible.

Giving hopes to the patients who didn’t work with conservative treatment

10% of the patients who didn’t work with conservative treatment need fundamental treatment. However, most of the spine patients have got pressure of blood transfusion, long term treatment, side effect after the surgery, deterioration of numbness and danger of the death so they try to keep away from the surgery. The minimally invasive spinal treatment is a hope for these people. The reason why we use the highly advanced technique such as laser, high frequency heat, and automatic inhaler which is hard to use for the spine treatment is to preserve normal tissue with minimal bleeding and to prevent aftereffect and complications without transfusion. Furthermore, the minimally invasive spinal treatment is basically to help patients to go back to their own normal life earlier without scar. This treatment could be divided into “minimally invasive bloodless spinal disc surgery' and 'microscopic spinal disc without incision'.

What is minimally invasive spinal treatment?
The beginning of minimally invasive spinal treatment

Endoscope and microscope which were used on brain blood vessels and a brain tumor and brain lesion started to use to treat disc disease passing 1990. As spinal surgeon started adopting bloodless minimally invasive treatment, spine patients especially old patients could have the treatment.
Remaining as little scar as it can be, inserting needle or a tube, preventing normal tissue with endoscope and microscope, so that it treats accurately only lesion.
Minimally invasive spinal treatment could be divided into “minimally invasive bloodless spinal disc surgery' and 'microscopic spinal disc without incision'.

What is microscopic spinal disc without incision?

It is used with a thin needle or a tube, and doesn’t need a general anesthesia and doesn’t open scar with scalpel. Under local anesthesia with consciousness, talking with the doctor, using a tomography, a magnetic resonance imaging, a computer navigation and a video amplifier to treat lesion accurately with drugs, laser and high-intensity ultrasound, high frequency heat, automatic suction.

What is minimally invasive bloodless spinal disc surgery?

It is making as little scar as possible with endoscope or microscope, to enlarge to do the surgery accurately on lesion and to prevent normal disc tissue. It’s same as the old standard surgery doing invasive incision under the general anesthesia, it’s different to treat spine lesion selectively with bloodless way preserving normal tissue as much as they can. Minimally invasive spine disc treatment has been developed with high equipment such as laser, microscope, optics, endoscope, computers and image diagnostic techniques.
